Computer Based Test Interview

It was a coding round. Time duration was 90 minutes. it was conducted on hackerrank platform. There were four coding questions. first question was easy. it was based on arrays and strings. Question 2 and 3 were medium level questions and 4th one was a bit hard. I was able to solve 2 completely and 2 partially out of 4 questions. Those who were able to solve 2, got shortlisted for further interviews. 13 students were shortlisted for interviews.

It was scheduled at 10:00 AM in the morning. The interviewer was friendly. first he asked me to code a simple rock paper scissor game. then he asked me to optimise the code and reduce the number of lines by modifying if else blocks. further he asked me some questions based on probability of wins, loses and draws which were related to the game. Then he asked me about my tech stacks and why I prefer Node.js over other backend frameworks.

Firstly the interviewer introduced himself. He was the vice president at BNY Mellon. Then he asked me to introduce myself. Then he gave me a coding question. It was on Hackerrank code pair. It was a leetcode medium level question based on string anagrams. I was able to solve it. Then he moved on to the web development part in my resume. He asked me to create a server using native HTTP module in Node.js and then asked me to create an API which validates the id which is passed as a parameter and then to send the status code 200 or 400 according to some conditions. after this he asked me some questions on data structures, their internal working, their real life use cases. This round went on for approx. 45 mins.

This was technical + HR round. Firstly he asked me to introduce myself, then we discussed about my projects. Again I was asked, why I prefer Node.js over other backend technologies. Then he gave me a problem statement related to unavailability of money at ATMs and the problem people face due to this in emergency situations and asked me to suggest some changes in the ATM software. Then he asked me about the positions of responsibilities in my CV. After this, he asked me about my short term and long term goals. Then he asked me whether I know what BNY does or not , and what is the difference between BNY Mellon and SBI in terms of work they do. Lastly he asked me whether I had any questions for him. This round went on for approx. 45 mins. 5 students were selected for the internship.

Other comments

Be thorough with whatever you have written in your resume. Dont write anything of which you are not sure about. Try to interact with the interviewer. Sometimes they also give hints to solve the problem. Always research about the company you are applying for. Prepare 1 or 2 questions to ask in the interview if given a chance. Good Luck .
